Longfu Templewas first built in 1452 and renovated in 1723. It served as a sanctuary for the Ming and Qing imperial courts. In 1744, the Yonghe Palace was converted into a lama temple, and Longfu Temple became its lower courtyard. From then on, Longfu Temple became a full-fledged lama temple, a Tibetan Buddhist monastery.In 1901, a fire destroyed the bell tower, drum tower, Weituo Hall, and main hall of Longfu Temple. The fire was caused by a lama on night duty who fell asleep at the altar and knocked over an oil lamp in front of a Buddha statue, igniting the curtains and causing the blaze.
